Why TISAX matters for companies

Today, automotive manufacturers and major suppliers require TISAX as a prerequisite for collaboration. Without a corresponding label, access to new projects and existing customer relationships is increasingly limited.

At the same time, requirements are rising: in addition to protecting confidential information, the security and availability of the entire supply chain are becoming key focus areas. Companies must demonstrate that their information security meets the expectations of the automotive industry – transparently, auditably, and reliably.

Companies that address TISAX too late or are insufficiently prepared risk delays, additional costs, and critical findings in the audit.

FAQs on TISAX certification

TISAX is not legally required, but in practice it is often demanded by automotive manufacturers and major suppliers as a prerequisite for collaboration. It also helps companies meet regulatory requirements such as NIS2.
The automotive industry requires strong protection of sensitive information such as development data, prototypes, and production processes. In addition, for several years now, proof of the security and availability of the entire supply chain has been required. TISAX® provides a standardized framework for demonstrating information security and availability. For many business relationships, a TISAX label is now mandatory.

The path to a TISAX label typically consists of three steps:
A TISAX label is typically valid for three years.
Yes. Many SMEs now also require a TISAX label in order to work with customers in the automotive industry. The requirements can be implemented in a scalable and pragmatic way, even in smaller organizations.
The most common issues include unclear customer requirements, lack of management support, insufficient employee training, weak risk management, and incomplete documentation. Technical measures are also often implemented too late, and external partners are not properly considered. A structured preparation helps to identify and avoid these issues early and ensures an efficient and successful audit.
A TISAX assessment already covers a large portion of the technical and organizational security requirements of the NIS2 Directive, particularly in the areas of ISMS, risk management, and IT security. Companies with a TISAX-compliant security management system therefore have a very strong foundation for NIS2. Additional requirements primarily include mandatory reporting obligations for cyber incidents to the relevant authorities.

Structured consulting helps to realistically assess the effort required for TISAX preparation, avoid common mistakes, and implement the requirements efficiently. With a clear project structure, time, costs, and unnecessary complexity can be significantly reduced.
